A water pipe that burst in the Pasqua Hospital on Wednesday night has postponed or moved more than 50 procedures.

The pipe burst on the Gastro Intestinal (G.I.) Unit on Wednesday evening, forcing the hospital to move eight procedures to the General Hospital and postpone the rest.

The burst pipe caused damage to the unit as well as the floors beneath, including the Medical Surveillance Unit (MSU), Cardiac Function Clinic and Radiology.

Several departments are working together to clean and repair the affected areas.

“We are happy to report that our teams fast response to this situation helped minimize the damage to the unit as well as the subsequent areas below,” said Dr. David McCutcheon, Vice President Physician and Integrated Health Services.

“The Radiology Department was reopened in the morning, while the eight displaced patients are expected to be transferred back to the MSU later this afternoon.

The G.I. Unit expects to be operational by Friday morning, although work will continue in one room on the unit due to more extensive damage.”

Procedures that have been cancelled are being rescheduled in the next two weeks. No further postponements to procedures are expected.
