More than a dozen wineries and 22 restaurants from the Kingston area took part in the 24th annual Fare for Friends event at the Vimy Officers’ Mess at CFB Kingston.
The event, which raises funds to help support the United Way, featured vendors like Black Dog Catering, who offered locally sourced samples of brioche beef sliders and a beet bruschetta on an endive leaf.
“We use local whenever possible, and it’s one of our favourite things to do — to collaborate with local farmers and local producers of anything,” said Black Dog’s general manager Palmer Nowak.
Attendees enjoyed getting a chance to sample some of the city’s best eats while helping to raise funds for a good cause.
The event raises around $75,000 annually. The funds go back towards local programs that help residents in the Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington region.
Organizers said the event couldn’t be held year after year without the help of dozens of volunteers who work hard preparing for the popular event and the businesses and artists who donate items for the silent auction.
The popular garden party event is the largest local United Way fundraiser of the year.
