Lethbridge College closing 2 of it’s 5 rural campuses

The Lethbridge College announcing the closure of two of it’s 5 rural campuses Wednesday. College officials say the move comes after a shortfall of 3.5 million dollars in the provincial budget.”All of the rural campuses have been under operational review for some time now about a year. Both Pincher Creek and Fort Macleaod had some challenges that were difficult to over come and the budget announcement accelerated those decisions,”says Leah Wack the manager of rural campuses.

The students enrolled will be allowed to finish their classes, but effective immediately the college will no longer be accepting students at the Fort Macleod and Pincher Creek campuses. “Both of those campuses were focusing on upgrading. That program in general has seen very low enrollments in past years,” adds Wack.

Officials with the college say the good news is there are only 5 students enrolled at those campuses. the college will be saving thousands of dollars by closing the doors. “Out of my own budget Pincher creek is about a 50 – thousand dollar a year operation . Fort Macleod the facility itself is in a state of repair and in the next year or 2 it would need hundreds of thousands of dollars in repairs,”says Wack.
