Police continue to look for information about an aggravated assault from 2016 in Edmonton that left a 24-year-old man with serious injuries.
At around 7 a.m. on May 14, 2016, an unconscious man was found in a wooded area near 69 Avenue and 172 Street. The man was taken to hospital.
The 24-year-old had reportedly met a man he did not know at the West Edmonton Mall Transit Centre just after midnight on May 14. That unknown man then introduced him to a group of approximately seven people, between the ages of 18 to 20, who the 24-year-old also did not know and the group walked to the Callingwood Skatepark.
Police believe there was an altercation involving the first unknown man, and the 24-year-old man tried to intervene, which was when he was assaulted.
“The 24-year-old complainant will sadly have to live with the injuries sustained from this assault for the rest of his life,” said Det. Billy Countryman of the West Division’s Criminal Investigation Section.
Investigators are looking to speak with that unknown man, who is described as being around 19 years old with a thin build. At the time, he was riding a black mountain bike and wearing a toque.
The 24-year-old man was wearing a light green, full button-up shirt with beige khakis and red sneakers. He was also wearing a black baseball cap, sunglasses and a blue backpack.
The public plea comes after police received new information.
An update for the media will be held at the Callingwood Skatepark at 2 p.m. on Thursday.
