Train service delayed along eastern Ontario corridor due to derailed train at Smith Falls

SMITHS FALLS, Ont. – Investigators are headed to Smiths Falls, southwest of Ottawa, after a Canadian Pacific freight train derailed there.

The Transportation Safety Board says five train cars derailed, including one filled with dangerous goods, but the car is not leaking and does not pose a threat.

There are no reports of injuries.

There’s no immediate word on why the train derailed, or how long it will take before trains are back in service on that part of the rail line.

Via Rail is using buses to transport passengers between Ottawa and Toronto and delays are expected to continue until the end of the day.
