MONTREAL – The on-going crisis at City Hall continues.

On Tuesday, Montreal Mayor Michael Applebaum insisted the city’s former top civil  servant, Guy Hébert will continue to get his $300,000 salary.

Applebaum says the executive committee will consider whether Hébert is removed from the payroll or whether the city will find him a new job.

Hébert resigned on Monday in disgrace following his call to the Public Security Minister to try and get Montreal’s police chief fired.

“At the present moment he is being paid, absolutely and he’s a permanent employee of the city of Montreal,’’ Applebaum said Tuesday.

Some councilors think Hébert didn’t act alone. Councillor Alan DeSousa believes Hébert got the mandate to call the Public Security Minister from the mayor himself.

“This is not a lone ranger on a horse going to Quebec. This is someone who has a mandate given to him and it has to come from political actors,” he said.

Applebaum denies ever giving Hébert a mandate to call Quebec City.
