Joe Rich residents in the clear as Philpott Road firefight continues

The last remaining evacuation alerts for 35 properties near the Philpott Road wildfire where lifted on Thursday, two weeks after the fire broke out.

The 465-hectare blaze burning about 20 kilometres east of Kelowna is considered 70 per cent contained.

The B.C. Wildfire Service said firefighters are working on control lines and mopping up hotspots.

Those under alert were supposed to be ready to leave at short notice. Officials were also telling residents under alert in the rural area not to move their livestock back home while the evacuation alert remained in place in case the properties had to be evacuated again.

With the evacuation alert lifted, residents are now free to bring livestock back into the area.

However, an area restriction is still in place for Crown land near the fire. That restriction is not set to expire until Sept. 15.
