Smoke from wildfires burning in northern Saskatchewan blanketed Regina in a thick haze on Thursday.
A high-pressure system in northern Manitoba is causing clockwise airflow, pulling down smoke from the northern fires.
Environment Canada has ranked the air quality health index at a very high health risk in Regina. Poor air quality is expected to continue throughout Thursday, then forecasted to improve Friday.
An air quality statement has also been issued by Environment Canada for much of the province, including the cities of Regina, Moose Jaw and Saskatoon. The thick smoke may cause coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Outdoor activity is not recommended with the air quality being so poor.
