CALGARY- Several southern Alberta rescue groups are struggling to house animals in need.
Seven no-kill groups will be hosting an adoptathon on April 6, so families can come and meet the hundreds of cats and dogs looking for forever homes.
This time of year is tough for rescue groups, with so many new litters being born.

“Our intake calls surge during the spring months,” explains RJ Bailot from Pound Rescue. “We really want to try finding some of the longer term residents that have been in foster care permanent homes.”
The Wild Rose Humane Society is also trying to raise money to build a new shelter, possibly in Didsbury. The $400,000 facility would house about 30 dogs and about 60 cats.
Currently, strays picked up between Airdrie and Olds are housed with volunteers, or at southern Alberta shelters that have space.
The adoptahon on April 6 will be held at Bowdog, located at 6909 Farrell Road S.E. It runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
