It was expected to be busier on the first full day of school this September but a number of accidents on major commuter routes is slowing things down even more.

Highway 1 westbound is lined up past 160th Street due to a collision just before the Port Mann Bridge.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The six-vehicle collision has blocked two lanes of traffic, although two are now getting through.

Traffic is very heavy across the bridge however, out of Surrey.

It is not affecting traffic heading into Coquitlam as those lanes are separated.
