WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Goldeyes played the role of spoiler on Labour Day.
The Goldeyes earned an 8-3 win over Fargo-Moorhead on Monday afternoon at Shaw Park, eliminating the RedHawks from playoff contention on the final day of the regular season.
After the game was delayed about an hour because of rain, Mason Katz hit three home runs to lift the Goldeyes to their 62nd win of the season. That’s just one short of the franchise record of 63 wins they set back in 2014.
Goldeyes starting pitcher Charle Rosario allowed just four hits over seven innings to pick up the victory as he finished the campaign with an 11-5 record. Shawn Pleffner finished the game 0-for-3 at the plate but still won the league’s batting title with a .340 average.

The loss by Fargo combined with a win by the Gary Southshore Railcats means the RedHawks will miss the playoffs. The Goldeyes will open the post-season against the central division champion Lincoln Saltdogs with game one of the best-of-five series on Wednesday in Nebraska. Game two will go on Thursday before the scene shifts to Winnipeg for the final three games if necessary from Saturday to Monday.
The Railcats grabbed the wild card spot and will meet the Wichita Wingnuts in the other division series.
