ANTIGONISH, N.S. – Unionized maintenance workers at Nova Scotia’s St. Francis Xavier University have voted to reject a contract offer from the school.

Negotiators for the university and the union reached a tentative agreement last week, but it was rejected by 67 per cent of workers who cast ballots in a ratification vote on Monday.

A union spokesman says wage increases remain the biggest hurdle.

The Canadian Auto Workers Union represents 115 cleaners, rink and pool staff, skilled trades, power engineers and grounds workers at the university.

The union’s last contract expired in October.
