REGINA – Saskatchewan’s Finance Minister Ken Krawetz says the province won’t stop using volatile non-renewable resources to keep the budget in the black.

Krawetz says these revenues contribute a significant amount to provincial coffers.

The comment came after a Calgary-based think-tank said Saskatchewan needs to reduce its dependence on oil and potash revenues.

The suggestion is one of four measures the Canada West Foundation hopes to see addressed when the provincial government tables its budget tomorrow.

Krawetz says eliminating non-renewable resources from general revenue would mean that money would have to be found somewhere else – either in taxes or program cuts.
