That may be the case, with the U.S. equity markets setting new record highs on a regular basis and the TSX now the second-worst performing market in the G-20, just ahead of Russia.

Canadian stocks have only just returned to their highs set in 2014, and have yielded investors a paltry three percent per year over the last three years.

With higher interest rates, a higher Canadian dollar and huge federal tax hikes on the horizon, the economy could struggle in the foreseeable future.

That could force more Canadians to look to overseas opportunities, particularly via ETFs, to grow their wealth.
