GALLERY & VIDEO: Another Lynx sighting in Banff National Park

BANFF, AB – An elusive lynx and her kitten have been spotted once again in Banff National Park.

The mother was seen by Banff conservation officer Alex Taylor outside Deer Lodge near Lake Louise, on March 1st.

The lynx was transfixed by her own reflection in a window.

Officials speculate the mother thought the reflection was another animal which could pose a threat to her kitten, so she stayed to keep an eye on it for almost 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, the lodge was able to secure the area and make sure guests stayed a safe distance away.

Taylor was able to observe the mother lynx without disturbing it and determine it was not injured.

The mother’s kitten eventually reappeared from around the side of the building, and the pair disappeared into the forest.

The mom and her kitten were spotted last month, when Taylor captured images and video of them squeezing through a fence near Lake Louise. They’ve also been observed on several occasions at the nearby Lake Louise Ski Area.

Officials think the elusive animals have been seen more than usual due to an increase in the snowshoe hare population.
