A Michigan firefighter is lucky to be alive after a flaming building collapsed on top of him, pinning him beneath a mass of flaming rubble while his comrades rushed to his aid.
This past Saturday around 3 p.m., firefighters responded to a fire call at a Mobil gas station in Iron Mountain, Mich., near the Michigan/Wisconsin border.
Video shot by local photographer Jason Asselin captured the terrifying moment when the wall of an EZ Mart collapsed on top of one of the firefighters.
“I thought I just filmed my worst fear,” Asselin told CBS News. “It scared me bad!”

Several firefighters rushed to try and free the trapped man as he lay pinned beneath the frame and the remains of the building.
Yet incredibly, the Iron Mountain Fire Department says their firefighter survived his close call.
“All of the members of IMFD would like to thank all of those individuals who put themselves in harm’s way to help us rescue one of our members at the fire yesterday,” the department said in a follow-up statement. “We are forever grateful for your selfless act of heroism.”
The Upper Michigan Source reports that the injured firefighter was treated for burns at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital and was later released. Two other firefighters were also treated for smoke inhalation.
