Surrey RCMP and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) are investigating a fatal shooting in the Fleetwood area on Monday afternoon.
Mounties received a report of shots fired in the 8200-block of 166 Street at around 2:30 p.m. Officers arrived to find a man inside a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. He later succumbed to his injuries.
The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Birinderjeet Justin Bhangu from Surrey.
“Mr. Bhangu was known to police and evidence collected suggests this was a targeted homicide. Anyone who may have information about Mr. Bhangu’s murder is asked to contact police.” Cpl. Meghan FOSTER of IHIT says, “This blatant act of violence was committed in a busy area of the community, and fortunately no one else was hurt.”
IHIT has now taken control of the investigation and say so far, the homicide appears targeted.
From the evidence recovered, investigators say a dark-coloured Nissan Pathfinder fled the crime scene. Police are still looking for the vehicle.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448), or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca. Should you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
