The video made headlines this weekend after police appealed to the public for more information.

RCMP confirmed today that the incident was a hoax.

Police say they received a call yesterday from a Surrey resident who recognized the car in the surveillance video.

Officers contacted the registered owner of the vehicle and the supposed victim, both of whom were cooperative with police.

“Unfortunately the large amount of time and resources spent on this specific case could have been dedicated towards investigating real incidents,” says Cpl. Bert of the Surrey RCMP.
