Bacchus members’ organized crime case put over until Feb.

HALIFAX – Three members of the Bacchus motorcycle club charged with criminal organization crimes have had their case set over for about six weeks.

Forty-five-year-old Patrick James, 38-year-old David Pearce, and 43-year-old Duayne Howe were charged last week with commission of an offence for a criminal organization and also with extortion.

It is the first time criminal organization charges have been laid in Nova Scotia.

James appeared in Dartmouth provincial court with his lawyer and the other men were represented by their lawyers.

The judge granted additional time for the Crown to disclose evidence to the defence lawyers.

Under the law, a “criminal organization” refers to a group that comes together to commit one or more serious offences that could result in a material benefit for the group.
