James Mennie gives a news review of 2012
We take a look back at the year in news in Montreal with the Montreal Gazette’s James Mennie. From student protests, to a word-wide hunt for a crazed killer who posted his crimes on the internet, to corruption scandals that rocked the city to its core, Montreal lived through more than the average number of huge news stories in 2012. We wrap them all up for you, and look ahead to what to expect as we kick off 2013. You can hear James Mennie’s podcasts looking back at 2012 in Montreal by visiting The Gazette’s website.

Baby snatching eagle viral video
We catch up with the students from Montreal’s National Animation and Design School who perpetrated a worldwide hoax this week. They posted a video on YouTube of an eagle snatching up a baby on Mount Royal. Within hours, it went viral getting 4 million hits in its first 24 hours. That was the goal of this class assignment on hoax videos going viral, and these guys clearly got an A+. Normand Archambeault and Felix Marquis Poulin tell us how they made the video and how they came up with their viral idea. You can watch the “Eagle Snatches Baby” video on our website here.
Bad breath guru offers holiday tips
And meet International bad breath guru Dr. Harold Katz, a dentist and microbiologist who explains just what gives you bad breath, and how to make sure you’re fresh and clean for all your holiday parties. Dr. Katz will try his infamous Halimeter (a hand-held device that tests the acceptability of people’s breath) on me, and then on himself after eating an onion. And then he’ll show us how his own TheraBreath system works to keep your breath fresh. For more information: www.therabreathcanada.com.
