Montreal’s first murder is that of missing 27-year-old woman

MONTREAL – The death of Pamela Jean has been classified as Montreal Island’s first homicide of 2013, Montreal police said Monday morning.

The body of the 27-year-old Longueuil woman had been found late Friday in the basement of a Montreal North duplex, on Hotel de Ville Ave.

The street runs parallel to and just east of Pie-IX Blvd., north of the Metropolitan Expressway.

A 32-year-old man detained after the discovery is expected to be arraigned later Monday on a charge of second-degree murder, Constable Simon Delorme of Montreal police added.

“The investigation revealed that the suspect was in a relationship with the victim,” Delorme said.

The home where Jean’s body was found is the residence of the accused, he added:

“A medical analysis done this weekend confirmed the identity of the victim.”

Jean had been reported missing by Longueuil police, and had last been in contact with family members Dec. 29.

Longueuil police said she had been spotted shopping in downtown Montreal about 7 p.m. Dec. 30.

Longueuil police had turned the case over to the Montreal homicide squad Friday.

Jean was the mother of a young child.
