A ‘Mo-mentous’ achievement: Canada leads Movember fundraising efforts

It looks like you can add mustaches to the list of things Canadians love, right next to hockey and poutine.

For the second year in a row, Canada has been named the leading nation in Movember fundraising.

The global charity event – held annually during the month of November – encourages men to raise awareness and funds for men’s health, by growing a moustache.

Since its inception in 2003, over 2 million participants have raised almost $300 Million, with campaigns taking place in 21 countries.

Officials have announced that this year, Canadians have raised almost $37-million, the most out of any nation.

247,066 Canadians participated in the campaign in 2012, donating $36.8 million for men’s health initiatives, specifically prostate cancer and male mental health. Donations are updated in real time at: http://ca.movember.com/leaderboards/

Funds from the 2012 campaign will benefit prostate cancer and male mental health initiatives through Prostate Cancer Canada (PCC), Movember’s Global Action Plan (GAP) and the Canadian Male Health Network (CMHN).
