It was the second largest sale of the fiscal year, and brought the yearly fiscal total to $48 million with one sale remaining.

“This increased investment shows that the petroleum industry continues to recognize the opportunities that exist in Saskatchewan,” Duncan said in a release.

“More oil wells were drilled in Saskatchewan in the first 11 months of 2016 than in Alberta, an indicator that our province is setting the pace in Canada in terms of both industry activity and policy attractiveness.”

The sale came on the same day the Fraser Institute said Saskatchewan ranks as the fourth most attractive place in the world for oil and gas exploration, up from seventh the previous year.

Alberta fell in the rankings, tumbling 18 spots to 43rd.
