Cab driver in coma after stabbing in Regina

A Regina Co-Op cab driver remains in a coma after being stabbed multiple times in the neck, throat and chest in the city’s east end Thursday.

The 31-year-old stabbing victim is fighting for his life at Regina General hospital. This is according to the victim’s employer, Daljit Singh,

“He’s in very critical condition right now still. We don’t know yet what’s happening with him,” Singh said.

“I talked to his wife and she keeps crying. She’s just praying for him.”

According to police, the victim, 31-year-old Iqbal Singh Sharma was one of three people injured in the Thursday night incident.

His friends and family have set up a GoFundMe page for him, requesting assistance from the public to get the family “through this hard time.”

Singh Sharma is new to Canada, and has a wife and young son.

Police have a 20-year-old man in custody based on his suspected involvement, but no charges have been laid so far.

The Co-Op Taxi president said they see way too much violence involving their drivers.

“I’m very very scared right now. I’m shocked… like what happened? He didn’t do anything wrong, why did he get hurt so badly?” Singh said.

“We give safe rides home to the public, and we want our drivers to be safe.”
