Saskatoon Transit routes disrupted Friday by ATU 615 job action

City officials say over 20 Saskatoon Transit school and regular route buses have been cancelled Friday afternoon due to ATU Local 615 job action. File / Global News

Job action by members of Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 615 will affect number of Saskatoon Transit bus routes on Friday afternoon.

City officials said drivers are refusing to overtime and with the current work to rule campaign, there are delays, cancellations and overcrowding on some buses.

Transit has cancelled the following buses on school routes:

  • Route 7 – servicing Tommy Douglas and Bethlehem at 3:46 p.m. Students will be required to catch Route 23.
  • Route 23 – servicing Tommy Douglas and Bethlehem at 3:35 p.m. Students will be required to catch Route 23.
  • Route 331 – servicing Aden Bowman, Walter Murray and Holy Cross High Schools leaving at 3:30 p.m. Students will be required to catch Route 81.
  • Route 332 – servicing Holy Cross at 3:20 p.m. Students will be required to catch Route 83 to Center Mall and then transfer to Route 84 or Route 85.
  • Route 334 – servicing Aden Bowman, Walter Murray and Holy Cross at 3:30 p.m. Students will be required to catch Route 81.
  • Route 335 – servicing Aden Bowman, Walter Murray and Holy Cross High Schools leaving at 3:30 p.m. Students will be required to catch Route 81.
  • Route 335 and 338 – servicing Walter Murray at 2:20 p.m. Students will be required to catch Route 81.
  • Route 339 – servicing Bethlehem and Tommy Douglas schools starting at 3:25 p.m. Students will be required to catch Route 23.
  • Route 341 – servicing Bedford Road, E.D. Feehan and Mont Royal high schools starting at 3:44 p.m. Students will be required to catch Route 5.
  • Route 346 and 348 – servicing Bethlehem and Tommy Douglas schools starting at 3:25 p.m. Students will have to catch Route 23.

Transit officials also said the following buses on regular routes have been cancelled for Friday afternoon:

  • Route 22 Montgomery – via Confederation leaving the downtown terminal at 3:29 p.m., 3:59 p.m and 4:29 p.m.
  • Route 22 Montgomery – leaving Confederation Terminal at 3:29 p.m. and 4:59 p.m.
  • Route 23 Blairmore – leaving Confederation Mall at 3:47 and 4:54 p.m.
  • Route 101 University Direct – at 2:40 p.m. Passengers will be required to catch route 50 Lakeview or 55 Lakeridge.
  • Route 102 University Direct – leaving Campus Dr. at 2:35 p.m.
  • Abilities Council Special #1 – Passengers will have to catch Route 19 City Centre or Route 1 City Centre.
  • City Centre Special – leaving Sask. Polytechnic at 3:07 p.m. Passengers will have to catch Route 7, Route 30 or Route 35.
  • Route 20 South Industrial Special – leaving Melville Street and Brand Court at 4:01 p.m.

Higher passenger volumes are expected on other routes during morning service resulting in full buses:

  • Route 4 – Willowgrove Square between 2:48 p.m. and 5:48 p.m.
  • Route 5 – McCormack between 3:16 p.m. and 5:16 p.m.
  • Route 6 – City Centre 3:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
  • Route 17 – Stonebridge leaving the U of S terminal between 3:41 p.m. and 5:41 p.m.
  • Route 18 – leaving the U of S terminal 3:37 p.m. and 5:37 p.m.
  • Route 23 – leaving Confederation Mall between 3:10 p.m. and 5:10 p.m.
  • Route 40 – Evergreen leaving the U of S terminal between 2:53 p.m. and 5:53 p.m.
  • Route 45 – Kenderdine leaving the U of S terminal between 3:37 p.m. and 5:37 p.m.
  • Route 50 – Lakeview leaving the U of S terminal between 3:21 p.m. and 5:21 p.m.
  • Route 55 – Lakeridge between 3:36 p.m. and 5:36 p.m.
  • Route 60 – Confederation between 3:15 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.
  • Route 81 – between 3:15 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.
  • Route 82 – leaving the U of S terminal between 3:44 p.m. and 5:44 p.m.
  • Route 84 – between 3:24 p.m. and 5:24 p.m.

Transit officials said they are reducing bus frequencies on some routes in response to the refusal of transit drivers to work overtime.

Riders can see service alerts on both the Saskatoon Transit and the city’s websites, using the transit app and by following Saskatoon Transit on Twitter.

Access Transit is not affected as it is an essential service.
