Calgary fire crews were called to the 100 block of Castlebrook Way N.E. at around 1 p.m. Thursday after a neighbour noticed thick black smoke coming from the home.
No people or pets were inside at the time of the blaze.
The fire was quickly brought under control. Most of the damage was in the basement, but smoke was reported throughout the home.
The Calgary Fire Department said the fire alarms melted as a result, so investigators cannot confirm whether the detectors were working properly.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
