Ticket sales began at 12 p.m. Thursday for Downie’s Nov. 29 show at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium.

Much to the dismay of fans, within 20 minutes.

People took to Twitter to express their frustration and outrage, many tweeting that before 12 p.m., the Dalhousie Arts Centre’s box office website would not load.

Laura Healy, events manager and acting director of the Rebecca Cohn, said the website had not crashed but was overloaded. She said people were eventually able to use the website to purchase tickets.

The Sonic Concerts’ website, which was also selling Downie tickets, also produced an error message.

In a post on their Facebook page, Sonic Concerts apologized to fans who weren’t able to get tickets.

“We’re sorry everyone couldn’t be accommodated, however the Rebecca Cohn is a small venue and the circumstances surrounding the show are extremely unique,” the post read.

Many people tried to get their highly-coveted tickets either by phone or in person, but tweeted that was unsuccessful as well.

This isn’t the first time this year people were disappointed over being unable to see The Tragically Hip frontman.

When tickets for The Hip’s Man Machine Poem tour went on sale this summer, they sold out in minutes, many of which were purchased by scalpers to be resold on websites like StubHub for thousands of dollars.

Tickets for the Secret Path concert were $61. The venue’s maximum capacity is just over 1,000 people.
