November is an important month when it comes to men’s health.

Garrison’s Barbershop is a modern take on the classic barbershop that’s decided to give back in a big way for a great cause.

For the month of November, Garrison’s is donating all its proceeds from beard and moustache trims to the Movember Foundation.

“Movember is the leading global men’s health charity focused on raising funds and awareness for men’s health year round,” says Jesse Hayman of the Movember Foundation.

“Specifically prostate cancer, testicular cancer and then male mental health and suicide prevention.”

Movember started in Australia in 2003 and since then, millions have joined the movement raising almost $800 million worldwide and funding more than 1,000 men’s health projects.

Hayman says these efforts come at a crucial time.

“It was something that was sorely overdue and needed,” said Hayman. “There’s a men’s health crisis right now and we need to do something about it.”

Long time client Jordan Fontaine is doing something about it this year by growing a beard with the help of Garrison’s.

“I think participating in Movember is just about awareness,” said Fontaine.

“It gives us guys a cause to sort of champion and prostate cancer is something that’s very important to men in general and I think it’s a good chance for us to grow beards and moustaches.”

Garrison’s Master Barber Alex Berry says it was important to the shop to give back this year in a special way.

“I feel the idea of pairing with a barbershop, the idea of creating community and creating conversation is a great aspect for men,” said Berry.

“There are a certain amount of men that well come here throughout the day and it doesn’t have to be all about the weather or all about politics.”

Hayman says Garrison’s Barbershop’s contributions to the cause are critical.
