An alleged child luring attempt in Kelowna was simply a case of mistaken identity according to the RCMP.
Police initially reported two men allegedly tried to lure a 12-year-old girl into their vehicle at around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Collison and Rex Roads.
The men asked the girl if she wanted a ride home.

RCMP say the men have since come forward to police saying they thought the young girl was an associate’s daughter.
“Kelowna RCMP would like to thank the men for their courage to come forward and help set the minds of parents in the community at ease,” Kelowna RCMP Cpl. O’Donaghey said.
“RCMP would like to take this opportunity to remind children to never accept a ride from strangers, or even someone you may know, without checking with your parents first,” O’Donaghey continued. “Parents are strongly encouraged to establish a secret word or secret phrase for your family, so that a ‘safe person or safe ride’ other than their parent or guardian can be identified in the event of an emergency.”
