Woman killed after vehicle drives off Alberta highway and into water

File: RCMP vehicle. File/Global News

A woman died after a single vehicle crash in northern Alberta Tuesday evening.

RCMP said a vehicle drove off Highway 881, south of the Hamlet of Anzac and was submerged in water.

The 52-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Wood Buffalo RCMP said no one else was in the vehicle.

The cause of the collision isn’t yet known.

Police said before the fatal crash, they received a complaint about a hit-and-run, where it’s believed the same vehicle was involved, but didn’t stop driving.

Anzac is 48 kms southeast of Fort McMurray.
