The City of Vancouver is considering options to protect False Creek from possible flooding and storm surge but the high price tag could be a deterrent.

City council is looking into several scenarios in anticipation of rising sea levels due to global warming over the next century.

Ideas include a surge barrier under the Burrard Bridge or raising the current seawall.

Any solution would cost hundreds of millions of dollars and Mayor Gregor Robertson has now asked staff to look at the possibility of legal action against major polluters, including oil and gas companies, as a way to curb the warming trend.
