Teen arrested in connection with fatal Nuns’ Island stabbing

A 16-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the stabbing death of a 15-year-old boy on Nuns’ Island Friday evening.

Montreal Police (SPVM) received a 911 call shortly before 11 p.m. alerting them that a young man had been stabbed.

The victim was found on Île-des-Soeurs Boulevard near Darwin Street.

“He has been stabbed in the upper body at least one time with a knife,” SPVM spokesperson Raphael Bergeron said.

He was rushed to hospital where he later died of his injuries.

According to police, the stabbing happened after a brawl broke out between a group of people.

Information gathered at the scene allowed officers to locate a suspect.

The 16-year-old was arrested and is being detained for questioning.  He is expected to meet with investigators later in the day Saturday and appear in youth court Monday.

His name won’t be released for privacy reasons.

It is the 17th homicide of 2016 on SPVM territory.
