A fire that damaged a boat while it was parked in the driveway of a Kelowna home Tuesday night has sparked an RCMP investigation.

“There’s no reason for it to start on fire where it’s sitting,” Cpt. Ron Golling with the Kelowna Fire Department told Global News.

The home owners were inside their house when they heard a noise around 9 p.m., according to police.

“It burned up the upholstery of the vessel. Fortunately, it was an aluminum boat. It didn’t get that hot or cause too much damage to the hull but the upholstery seating and that was fully damaged,” Golling said.

The fire is being considered suspicious; anyone with information is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
