For anyone trying to find somewhere to rent in Vancouver’s crazy housing market, this sounds like a dream come true.
A Coquitlam man is offering to pay someone to be his roommate, with a few catches.
Brice Royer, who is a cancer survivor, is offering a free room in his home and will give his roommate $1,500 a month to live there.
“The catch is, you have to be compassionate, that’s about it,” said Royer.
All he wants his roommate to do is light housework and cooking to help him out.
Royer also made the news back in November, 2015, when he started a campaign to raise money to buy a home for a single mom living in a homeless shelter.

His latest offer is attracting attention especially due to the fact it is very difficult to find a rental unit in Metro Vancouver. Just recently, a Craigslist ad went up for a place near Commercial Drive. It cost $1,400 a month but the landlord might get upset if the new tenants cook, make noise, have friends over, or hang out at home.
While his deal may seem appealing, Royer knows it’s not for everyone.
“It’s only for a specific type of person who feels really inspired, has the compassion, or can relate to what it’s like to care for people on disabilities.”
His ad is catching a lot of attention but many are saying it seems just too good to be true.
