Darvin Adams back on the field as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers go back to work

WINNIPEG — It was a back to work Tuesday for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers after getting more than a week off for the bye.

“It fell at a good time,” said head coach Mike O’Shea.

It was also back to work for receiver Darvin Adams who was injured way back in July, but is once again ready to go.

“It’s just felt good to be out there with the guys,” said Adams.

Adams is healthy again but he missed almost three months of action. So there’s no guarantee he plays against the Ottawa RedBlacks on Saturday as the coaching staff will make that decision later in the week.

“He made some nice plays in practice already,” said O’Shea. “We’ve got to sort of assess his fitness level. I know coming back from an injury, he’s good to play but there’s more to it than that. We got to make sure he can play 60 minutes for us at a high level and that will be assessed during the week before we make a decision whether or not he’s going to be on the roster.”

Tori Gurley lined up in Adams old spot at wide receiver prior to the bye week, but before Adams went down he was the team’s leading receiver with 503 yards receiving and three touchdowns in just six games.

“When you threw him the ball he was trying to make big plays for his teammates. I think he really missed it,” said O’Shea. “He’s a fiery competitor. I think he loves being a teammate. You see him out there working hard, when he wasn’t getting the ball, working hard to block.”

While Adams appears ready, neither offensive lineman Sukh Chungh or linebacker Ian Wild took part on Tuesday. Chungh was injured in their win over the B.C. Lions last time out.

“I won’t rule a guy like that out,” said O’Shea.

Wild’s status will also be determined later in the week after missing four of the last five games.

“Same thing, he doesn’t need the reps in practice,” O’Shea said. “We’ll assess it right at the very end to see how he fares during the week.”
