The federal government held a town hall in Halifax on Friday to gather feedback on what people want in next year’s budget.

“There are a number of different programs that we used to able to access that have been cut over the years, and we’d like to see a reinstatement of some of those programs,” said Dave Rideout, president of MetroWorks, an organization that runs training programs for what he called “disadvantaged individuals.”

The event, headed by Bill Morneau, the federal finance minister, was held at the Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market between noon and 1:30 p.m.

Doctors, and representatives from local businesses, schools, among other organizations, attended.

“I think it’s important to remember that a strong economy is built from a healthy population and we can’t underestimate the importance of healthcare to the economy,” said Dr. Daria Manos, one of about 50 attendees.
