Apple Music just got a big new dose of Canadian content.
As of Tuesday, Corus Radio has become the first Canadian commercial radio broadcaster to offer programming through the U.S. tech giant’s online music streaming service.
The move adds seven Canadian news-talk stations to the digital platform’s menu, including Vancouver’s News Talk 980, Calgary’s News Talk 770, Edmonton’s 630 CHED, Winnipeg’s 680 CJOB, London’s AM 980, Hamilton’s AM 900 CHML, and Toronto’s AM 640.
Programming from the stations will be available to listeners for free, accessible through the section of Apple Music not covered by the service’s $9.99-per-month paid subscription.
Apple already hosts a number of news broadcasters through its free tier, including BBC, NPR, ESPN and Bloomberg Radio.
Apple Music launched in June of 2015, and Apple CEO Tim Cook announced at last month’s iPhone event that it has since grown to 17-million subscribers.
The service sits in second place in the emerging streaming market, behind Spotify which announced last month that it has grown to 40-million subscribers.
