TORONTO – Blue Jays left-hander Francisco Liriano suffered a mild concussion after he was hit in the back of the head by a ball in Toronto’s 5-3 victory over the Texas Rangers in Game 2 of the American League Division Series.

There was no skull fracture and he’ll be re-evaluated on a daily basis, Blue Jays trainer George Poulis said after testing was done Saturday.

“It did show a mild concussion,” Poulis said. “He’s actually doing great today. The symptoms were very good. He came in today feeling good. There’s no timetable (for his return) right now but we’re going to examine him each day and just go from there.”

Liriano left the field on his own but was taken to a local hospital for testing before being cleared to fly back with his teammates. Additional testing was done Saturday in Toronto.

“All the tests today were all normal,” Poulis said. “It was great. We were very excited about how he felt today and so was he.”

Second baseman Devon Travis will also be re-evaluated on a daily basis after suffering a right knee bone bruise. He had a cortisone injection and underwent an MRI exam.

“It just showed normal wear and tear,” Poulis said. “So it was a very good finding. We didn’t see anything big in there, so structurally he’s really good.”

If Game 4 is necessary, it will be played Monday at Rogers Centre. The series would shift back to Texas on Wednesday if a decisive fifth game is required.
