Calgary man faces drug-impaired driving charges in B.C. man’s highway death

VANCOUVER – A Calgary man faces impaired driving charges after the fiery death of a limo driver on the Sea to Sky Highway near Whistler, B.C., in January.

RCMP say Jacob Mitzimberg is accused of being impaired by drugs when his pickup truck slammed head on into the limousine.

The driver, 54-year-old Shafiqur Rahman of Delta, B.C., was killed when the limo he was driving became engulfed in flames.

Sgt. Peter Thiessen says the impaired and dangerous driving charges were laid after an extensive investigation involving 50 police officers in both B.C. and Alberta.

Mitzimberg is due to make a first appearance on the charges in a North Vancouver court on Dec. 5.
