WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have traded defensive back Johnny Adams to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for the rights of receiver Mekale McKay.
The exchange comes just a few days after Adams swatted at a potential game changing fumble against the Calgary Stampeders instead of trying to recover it. The missed play resulted in a field goal for the league leading Stampeders. Winnipeg ended up losing Saturday’s game 36-34.

Adams has 21 defensive tackles and an interception in five games this season. The American was named a CFL West Division All-Star last year. He is set to become a free agent this winter.
“With the depth we have accumulated in the defensive backfield, accompanied with Johnny’s pending free agent status, we were comfortable making this move for the betterment of the Winnipeg Football Club,” said Bombers General Manager Kyle Walters in a statement.
McKay was recently cut by the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts. He finished his college career with 108 catches for 2,034 yards and 19 touchdowns in 50 games. McKay played for both Cincinnati and Arkansas. He was on Hamilton’s negotiation list.
ROSTER RENOVATION: The Bombers shook up their practice roster on Wednesday. The team added offensive lineman John Kling who recently spent time with the Chicago Bears. Winnipeg also released defensive linemen Eric Martin and Erik Williams, receiver Lonnie Outlaw and linebacker Nick Temple.
