8 teens injured in pickup truck rollover crash in Kelowna

Eight teenagers were taken to hospital with varying injuries after a pickup truck rolled over in the Ellison area of Kelowna just after 8 p.m. Saturday.

The driver had seven passengers in his pickup, six were riding in the bed of the truck.

RCMP say the driver ‘failed to properly negotiate a curve’ causing the truck to flip on its roof.

“All eight vehicle occupants, male teens who ranged in age from 16-18, were transported to hospital for treatment of injuries which ranged from minor to serious,” said Kelowna RCMP Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey in a news release. “All [are] believed to be non-life threatening in nature.”

RCMP said driver inexperience may have played a role in the accident, and that drugs and alcohol are not believe to be factors in the crash.
