Stettler RCMP believe alcohol was a contributing factor in a three-vehicle collision northwest of Stettler Saturday at around 5:30 p.m.

In a news release Saturday night, RCMP said it appears one vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Highway 835 and Highway 601. Police believe that vehicle sideswiped two other vehicles and ended up in a ditch.

One male driver suffered serious injuries and was flown by STARS Air Ambulance to the Foothills hospital in Calgary.

RCMP told Global News the man injured was the man who allegedly ran the stop sign.

Stettler is located about 230 kilometres northeast of Calgary.
