The new Central Okanagan Family Hub had its official grand opening Friday morning at Pearson Road Elementary.
The Hub connects families to community services including learning programs and emergency shelter or food.
Rather than cutting a ribbon to kick-off the grand opening, the Hub instead had a ribbon joining ceremony to represent bringing people together.
Initial funding for the centre is provided by United Way which confirmed it will be donating $97,000 annually for three years. Other sponsors include the Office of the Early Years, the City of Kelowna, and the Central Okanagan Foundation.
“This is really a celebration of family and I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of it.” Says Pearson Road Elementary School Principal, Rob Zoppi.
Zoppi feels fortunate that the school district picked his school for the location.
“This is definitely a proud moment, and kind of an emotional time for me to see this all come together because it took us 2 and a half years.”
The centre’s staff helps families by offering referrals to services they need.
