A portion of the downtown Calgary municipal building has been closed temporarily due to structural concerns.
The City of Calgary said Monday “a structural element, which appears to not meet building safety codes, was identified” during recent work on the northeast section of the facility.
The city said the closure, which includes floors eight through 12, was put in place due to an “abundance of caution, and that “there is an immediate risk to the structural integrity.”

Employees in the shuttered areas will be temporarily relocated.
“The City holds itself to the same high standards it holds other building owners in regards to safety,” director of facilities management Thomas Hansen said.
“We want to ensure employees and members of the public visiting the municipal building that we are working to ensure it is safe.”
The rest of the building is open and operating as per usual.
