Trying to solve Montreal’s traffic issues

With traffic and construction in Montreal not letting up, commuters can expect to see orange cones throughout the city as summer winds down.

Construction and repairs have been taking place on both highways and roads, causing delays.

Senior Anchor Jamie Orchard sat down with François Pepin, president of Transport 2000, to talk about traffic problems and what’s being done with public transport to help road congestion.

Transport 2000 is an association that looks to develop and improve public transport in Quebec, while also making sure that user opinions are heard.

With a new year school year already started, Pepin acknowledged that the city needs to do something.

“For the last year, what we asked for was to improve bus routes,” Pepin said.

“September is incredible with all the congestion everywhere [and] traffic jams.”

Pepin spoke of how traffic has forced many people to plan ahead.

“What we see is people are leaving earlier, as soon as 5:30 a.m.,” Pepin said.
