Driver killed in crash on Highway 22 near Nanton, Alta.

One person was killed in a crash southwest of Nanton, Alta. on Tuesday.

The collision between a semi-trailer hauling cut logs and a pickup truck happened at around 6:20 a.m. on Highway 22, just south of Highway 33.

RCMP said the pickup was travelling southbound when it collided with the northbound semi-trailer, causing the pickup to roll into the ditch.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 28-year-old man from Okotoks, was treated by paramedics on scene but succumbed to his injures. RCMP said the name of the deceased will not be released.

Two men from the semi-trailer were transported to hospital in High River with minor injuries. They have since been released.

In 2015, a collision in the same area injured five people, including three teens.

Editor’s note: Although EMS initially indicated the deceased was believed to be in his 40s, RCMP later clarified he was in fact 28.
