Lumby is now officially Hockeyville

Lumby is officially Hockeyville — it now says so on the village’s hockey rink.

Lumby won $100,000 for arena upgrades in the Kraft Hockeyville contest in March and will technically host an NHL pre-season game between the Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings on October 2. But the game is actually being played in Vernon to accommodate an anticipated capacity crowd.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

However, a number of events will be taking place at the Pat Duke Arena in Lumby, so the NHL brought in one of its top ice-makers who has brought the ice up to league standards and added a giant Kraft Hockeyville logo.

Organizers won’t reveal what events are going to be held at Pat Duke Arena for Kraft Hockeyville Day but say those details will soon be released.

“The day before the Pre Season NHL game all those who love hockey and want to see some current and former NHL players are invited to The Pat Duke as well as oval park Lumby from 10 -6pm on Saturday October 1st,” said organizer Angie Clowry.
