An 18-year-old woman was rushed to hospital in critical condition after being struck by a sport utility vehicle (SUV) in Montreal’s Ville-Marie borough near Westmount.
At around 2 a.m. Friday, police received numerous 911 calls reporting a collision between a pedestrian and a SUV at the corner of Fort Street, near Tupper Street.
When officers arrived at the scene, the young woman was lying on the ground unconscious.
She was rushed to hospital in critical condition where doctors were able to stabilize her.
Montreal police spokesperson Benoit Boiselle said the woman’s boyfriend was also taken to hospital and treated for shock.
Witnesses at the scene told police the victim was hit by a SUV heading south on Fort Street as she was attempting to cross from west to east.
“Following the impact, the vehicle fled south,” Boiselle said, adding the vehicle reportedly never stopped.
Fort Street remained closed for several hours, between Tupper and Ste-Catherine streets, as collision experts analyzed the scene.
Officers were also on hand to interview witnesses.
