WINNIPEG – All the evidence in the trial of the woman accused of hiding infant remains in a Winnipeg storage locker has been heard now that her husband has finished testifying.
Andrea Giesbrecht is accused of hiding the remains of six infants in a U-Haul storage locker on McPhillips St.
Her husband Jeremy Giesbrecht was cross-examined Wednesday morning at the law courts.
His testimony began in July when crown prosecutors called him to the stand, but it was cut short over questions about spousal privilege.
On Wednesday, Andrea Giesbrecht’s defense lawyer Greg Brodsky resumed the questioning.
Jeremy Giesbrecht testified he knew his wife had an unknown number of miscarriages and between 9 and 11 abortions.
He said he supported the decision to have them, “We decided not to have any more children after our second child.”
When Brodsky asked Giesbrecht if he thought his wife was hiding the pregnancies, Giesbrecht said he was aware of them.
He also told court he remembered taking his wife to an abortion appointment in 2009.
Brodsky then asked him if he had ever seen a bill for the U-Haul storage locker.
Giesbrecht responded, “I may have seen a bill for U-Haul. I’m not exactly sure. It could be yes, it could be no.”
Crown Prosecutors closed their case on Wednesay after Jeremy Giesbrecht’s testimony. Andrea Giesbrecht’s defense lawyers did not call any witnesses.
Giesbrecht was arrested after the infant remains were found in October, 2014.
Her trial began in April of this year but has gone on break twice.
Closing arguments are set for this Friday.
