Police say woman jumped on, attacked in her bed by man who broke into home

Police in Halifax are looking for a man accused in a violent attack on a woman who says she was choked and beaten in her bed after he broke into the home.

They say the woman heard footsteps in her Timberlea home at about 3 a.m. and was then attacked by a man who allegedly jumped on her, attempted to choke her and hit her with a metal object.

Police say the woman fought back, got away and ran to her neighbour’s home.

“It’s a very disturbing incident, we all need to feel safe in our homes,” RCMP Cpl. Dal Hutchison told Global News.

She was taken to hospital to be treated for injuries to her head, face and upper body.

Police officers and a canine unit searched the area, but did not find a suspect.

They also say a description of the suspect was not available because it was dark at the time.
